A girl is beat almost to death at school

There has been a lot of this on evening shows lately. A boy was burned terribly also.
Many women-hosted evening newsish shows feature one or other of the (usually single) parents who kill their babies or small children. Once they get a bit bigger, are they tougher to kill?
